The snow, the tattoo, the observation deck

By the time my plane landed in Buffalo on Christmas morning, I was pretty ready to eat some cookies and hug everyone. My parents adopted two dogs from the Hinsdale SPCA (that place is so dirty and disgusting, it makes my heart hurt for those animals), and they are amazing.

Where to start? Christmas was wonderful (Papa Scott went all out and bought my mom a ring and earrings for me; in fact, I got diamonds from each of them...couldn't believe my freaking eyes!) and quiet. I finally got to go to the Observation Deck at City Hall in downtown Buffalo - Amanda and I met up with Steve Wills, who I used to work with at a little after-hours pizza place in college. It was so good to see him! If you live in Buffalo and you've never been up to the observation deck, GO. It's just a 360 degree enclosed ledge that sports some of the most breathtaking views of the city I've ever seen. Buffalo has a bad reputation for being an ugly city, which is partly due to the brutal winters, but I've always been able to find beauty in it. Every time I go home and see these things, it makes me more excited to be able to freelance full-time someday so that I can move into one of these lofts downtown and pay less for a huge loft all by myself than I currently pay for my half of a 2bdr in West LA...

I also got a tattoo. It's just a little thing on the outside of my right wrist, but it means I'm .05% closer to completing my sleeve LOL. I kid. But I do want something big eventually; maybe on my upper back?

I don't want to post the obligatory "2012 in review" shit. I don't really feel the need to let a date become the beginning or end of a period of my life; I'd much rather feel thankful for a new day or a new minute and recognize new beginnings as they happen. I would have gone out to celebrate anyway, but the day before I flew home I developed a cough that has since turned into the flu, lucky me! Good thing being a cat lady means that I always have some warm creatures to snuggle with who aren't afraid of my germs :)

I should note that the only reason I'm excited for this month is because it means Girls and Shameless have new seasons. January is so blah, ya know?

When I started this site I figured it would take a really long time to get to a point where I have a solid base of sweet people to read it, but it appears that I've underestimated it. I want to thank all of you for voting in that Featured Blogger of the Year poll - it appears that I have an assload of friends and readers that don't mind taking 30 seconds out of their day to vote for me, and that's awesome! I got my chicken trophy in the mail today and I think I'll put it on my desk at work.

PS I couldn't NOT post this, it made me smile so big. Derik is a friend that I made back when I was working with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and he's one of those people that conversation is always enjoyable with. It's so good to have people in your life that lift you up and make you believe that you can do whatever you want, my loves. Even if you (somehow) haven't run into them at a GPN show yet!

  7. I'm finally getting around to reading some of the blogs I've bookmarked in 20SB. Congrats on your first tattoo! I got my first one in 2003, and I think I've averaged almost one each year since then. Happy 2013, Hanna!
